The City of Jamaica Beach will be conducting a General Election on Saturday, May 11, 2013 to elect a Mayor and 2 Alderman for two year terms.

Notice of Deadline to File Applications for Place on the Ballot  
The above link is a copy of the Official Notice of Deadline to File Applications for a Place on the Ballot posted at City Hall.  The above Notice provides the dates in which an Application for a Place on the Ballot can be submitted to the City Secretary.  
             
Order of the Election  
The above link is a copy of the Official Order of Election issued on February 4, 2013.  An Order of Election provides the Date of the Election, Early Voting and Application for Ballots by Mail Information.  
             
Notice of General Election  
The above link is a copy of the Official Notice of General Election issued on February 4, 2013.  A Notice of General Election provides Early Voting Information, Polling Locations, Dates and Times for the Election.

Application for Place on the Ballot        
Click on the above link to obtain an Application for a Place on the Ballot.  The loyalty oath is included on this form and must be signed in the presence of a notary.  The application must be filed with the City Secretary, starting at 8:00 a.m. on January 30, 2013 thru 5:00 p.m. on March 1, 2013.

Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate - Instruction Guide

The above form must be filed before you may accept a campaign contribution or make or authorize a campaign expenditure, including an expenditure from your personal funds.  It is recommended to file this form when you submit your Application for a Place on the Ballot.

The above form is to be filed with the City Secretary on dates specified on the form.  There is a modified reporting statement for those candidates not planning to spend more than $500, which is attached to the Appointment of a Campaign Treasurer by a Candidate (reference above).

Subscription to the Code of Fair Campaign Practices is voluntary; however, you are encouraged to do so.

Appointment of a Poll Watcher Form  
Use the above form if you wish to use a poll watcher on the day of the Election.  Effective September 1, 2007 a person (anyone in the polling place) is prohibited from using a wireless device (e.g., cell phone) within 100 feet of a voting station.  There is no new language in the oath because the new law didn't amend the oath.  the new law prohibits usage of the wireless device.  
             
It is the duty of the candidate to become familiar with the law applicable to campaigns for office.  While the candidates may certainly expect the City Secretary to be able to advise them when reports are due, the duty of the City Secretary is limited to accepting and filing the various applications, affidavits and statements, and noting the date and time of the filing thereon.  The City Secretary should not be expected to judge or comment upon the timeliness or sufficiency of reports filed.  These documents are public records and are open for inspection by any person.  If you have any questions regarding these forms, please contact the Texas Ethics Commission at 1-512-463-5800 or visit their website at www.ethics.state.tx.us.
